Michael Jones

Serving his country as a marine was engrained into Michael from the beginning. His mother and father are both Marines and were living in Honolulu, Hawaii when Michael was born. His family soon moved to Yuma, Arizona in 1991. After graduating from high school in Yuma, Michael played on a football scholarship at Phoenix College before enlisting in the US Army in 2004.

Michael graduated from Airborne School and the Ranger Indoctrination Program (RIP) in 2004, and Special Operations Command Medical Course (SOCM) in 2005. He was also a member of the 2/75 Ranger Battalion—serving two combat deployments as a special operations medic in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom—and graduated from US Army Ranger School in 2007.

In continuing his education, Michael graduated Summa Cum Laude (4.0) with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Wellness from Arizona State University. He went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant Studies from Chatham University in Pittsburgh, PA. Today he is serving as a member of the Arizona National Guard with over 14 years of military service and as an Emergency Department Physician Assistant for the last 3 years.

Michael’s lifetime of military service and desire to help people in need led him to the founding of StixMobile. As a military medic Michael frequently administered IV fluids to soldiers in the field who didn’t have access to a healthcare facility or the time to wait in an office to be seen. This inspired Michael to come up with a streamlined process for offering IVs and other minimally invasive procedures to clients in the comfort of their own homes.

Fernando Cortes, MD

Although Fernando was born in Washington DC, he was raised in Puerto Rico, and then moved to Arizona in 1987. After graduating from Mountain View High School, Mesa, AZ in 1994, Fernando served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Philippines.

After returning from the Philippines Fernando completed a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology 2001 and graduated from the University of Arizona College of Medicine in 2007. Four years later he completed a residency in Emergency Medicine at the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.  Fernando is currently serving as the Vice Chair and PRC representative of the Emergency Department at Banner Casa Grande Medical Center where he has worked for the last six years. Fernando has been married to his wife for 17 years and they have three wonderful children together.

He was drawn to medicine since he was a young boy because of his desire to serve others in need. One of the main tenets of Emergency Medicine is the ability to take care of a patient anytime, anywhere, in any situation. What led him to this business concept is a similar notion – to provide a quality infusion service in a safe manner using experienced healthcare professionals in the comfort and convenience of one’s home. The ability to provide quality IV infusions during large events is another reason why he joined Stix Mobile as medical director. He has had extensive experience as a stadium physician at NCAA sporting events and large outdoor venues. Fernando believes that his experience as a medical control physician in these settings has provided him with the unique insight to establish and manage the necessary relationships with event promoters to provide a quality IV hydration service with minimal risk to the event coordinators.
